Lalavesi: Akma Cushion F.W. 2016 classic

Lalavesi: Akma Cushion F.W. 2016 classic

Cushion foundation is a popular type of foundation in Korea. This type of foundation was out in the Korean market about more than 2 years ago and the North American market only caught on lately.

In this sea of cushion foundation, I was very confused to choose which one to try from, especially if I had to order it online all over from Korea! This blog, theoutletofmyconsciousness.com, convinced me that Lalavesi is the one.

There are not much reviews out there on Lalavesi but The Outlet of my Consciousness reviewed it in so much details and stated it was her favorite cushion that I was immediately sold.

And here is my contribution to the review of Lalavesi Cushion foundation!

What appealed me immediately about Lalavesi cushion is that they are separated into 3 seasons:
1. F.W. : For fall and winter
2. S.S. : For spring and summer (Special summer)
3. S.F. : For summer and fall

Another way to interpret this is that:
1. F.W. is for dry skin
2. S.S. is for oily skin
3. S.F. is for combination skin

For each category, there are 2 types of finish offered: classic or natural. Classic offers a higher coverage while natural offers a low coverage. And each category has its own special ingredient. For example, F.W. is made of organic honey, S.F. is made of Italia yogurt, and S.S. is made of volcanic cash for their classic type and lime extract for their natural type.

Like most Korean foundation, an array of shades is very limited, just 2. Y2 or Y6 (Y1 is only available for F.W.).

Lalavesi has some of the cutest cushion compacts out there to choose from. I wish all brands have interchangeable compact. But I guess that is part of the business plan to entice people to try out new cushion just for the new cute limited cushion compact. Like any cushion foundation, refills are available so the compact can be reused within the same brand.

I purchased F.W. in 2016 classic Y2. Lalavesi just reformulated their cushion which explains their “2016” label. I also purchased S.S. but that will be reviewed later when the season changes over here. Where I live, the winter is brutal and with the indoor heating, my skin that is already dry dries up even more. I was hoping that F.W. would consider these factors and be the perfect foundation for winter.

After 2 weeks of trial, I still have very mixed feelings about this.

First, I underestimated Korean love for light skin tone. I went for Y.2. which is too light for me. However, if I pat it lightly on me, I can still go out without much problem. Luckily, the supplier included some samples for every shade available for F.W. (even in Y1! I don’t think I will try that one…). So, I tried the Y6 shade which is a bit dark for me. So, I am stuck in between 2 shades. And I am afraid to see that S.S. in Y6 that I purchased will probably be too light for me during summer time when I tan a bit.

On days that my skin is already nice looking (no dry patches, only just discolouration), this cushion really makes my skin very dewy and perfect. However, on days that I do have dry patches on my red areas, the foundation cling onto the dry patches made my skin looks worse.

Out of the 14 days I tried this foundation, I only appeared once severely oily. My T-zone can seldom be oily. But this one time, it was definitely very greasy looking. The other times, I was fine the slight dewiness on my skin, which is actually what I prefer. I did not have any breakout from this product and I am incredibly glad because I can be sometimes sensitive to products with SPF. Yes, all these cushions have SPF. Always a bonus with Korean foundation.

With very light application, this cushion looks very natural, like I did not put any foundation. But, with a heavier application, traces of foundation are definitely apparent.

The scent emitted from the cushion is not very pleasing, but I think it comes from the SPF. It smells like sunscreen, but the scent does not stay on the skin. However I can definitely smell it at application.

I don’t remove my make-up when I go exercise after work, so I am able to really test its longevity and performance under harsh condition (after a long day and then an intensive session of sweats). Unfortunately, my face is not presentable at all. The foundation has melted all over and I can clearly see patches of foundation here and there.

I also tried this foundation on days where I was street shopping on cold weather such as -15C. The foundation did not crack or dried up on my face. It stayed fairly fresh. This was something that I was really happy of.

My conclusion is that this cushion is perfect when I have skin tone unevenness and no dry patches, and also when I do not plan to sweat a lot.
