Sushi Momo – The most popular vegan restaurant?

Sushi Momo wins the most popular vegan restaurant in Montreal area title. Every single time someone asks for a vegan restaurant, Sushi Momo is at least suggested once. Vegans even confirmed that non-vegans love that place too.

My first attempt to dine at Sushi Momo was months ago, at their old location, which only accommodate only a handful of people. They weren’t able to find me a table when their tables were fully reserved. Now, they moved to La Fabrique original location and the number of people they are able to serve multiplied. But as a precaution, I made a reservation.

It was almost full on a Thursday evening. The décor barely charged from La Fabrique, which I am glad because I find it is pretty at it is and would be wasteful to tear off everything). It fits well with Vegan’s motto: sustainability.

The menu presents a sizeable number of dishes, all vegan. It was difficult to choose! Omakase, their tasting menu, is definitely an easy route at a reasonable price (actually a better deal if you were to order the same quantity). However, I wanted to choose! This invites danger of choosing the less tasty rolls.

In total, we had 5 different items with 2 ice creams, which came about the same price as their tasting menu (their tasting menu would actually gives us a few more pieces). We were about 80% full.

My general opinion about Sushi Momo is positive, but it does not replace authentic sushi. Traditional sushi is about the purity of the ingredients and is very light. Sushi Momo sushis are heavy because it is usually drown in sauces. It is not a bad thing. They are very tasty. But it is best to treat them as a new set of food and embrace them by being open-minded. There was only one roll that I did not enjoy. It was one that was deep fried (I guess it is just my personal preference that I don’t like my rolls fried) and therefore, quite greasy. I was ecstatic to know everything I ate was fully vegan and the food was different from the usual vegan food. My only complaint is their size of ice cream. The ball was smaller than a golf ball! Maybe that’s just my gluttony speaking.

Sushi Momo is undeniably a crowd-pleaser and just increased their fan base!
