Salmigondis: Intricate brunch

Salmigondis: Intricate brunch

Bringing my mother to a restaurant is always a challenge, especially when it is for her birthday. She has high standards so I need a flawless restaurant.

Salmigondis has been on my radar while surfing on instagram. The pictures were fantastic. After asking around for opinions about Salmigondis, I was determined that Salmigondis would meet all my expectations.

This restaurant is so modest and the charm really can’t be seen from the outside. Once entered, I am brought to an alluring space. The decor is completely up to my taste. If I could, I would do a replica of their kitchen. Just grabbing a coffee and enjoying the surroundings is worthwhile.

But I came to Salmigondis for their intricate and elevated brunch menu. I was quickly startled by the diversity of meals offered on the menu. It is unlike any other brunch I’ve gone to. The items were as fancy as items from a dinner menu. I was ready to tackle on the tough decision “which one to order?” We ended up choosing a combination of flavors, sweet, salty and savoury.

Kyle’s French toast

Chili con carne

Waffle and fried rabbit

Each dish was beautifully handled. Visual aspect is very important when dining out as it enhances the whole experience. Salmigondis knows that perfectly. Some may be disappointed by the quantity of food presented on the plate, but following Hara Hachi Bu, which is a Japanese practice at eating until 80% full, the portion is about right. I would like to say it is a fine dining brunch style.

But to prolong the euphoria of good food, without hesitation, I ordered desserts as well. They were splendid. The desserts were so simple, yet they knew exactly how to uplift the flavors and texture. Playing with crunchy and “moussey”. If calories were not a first world problem, I would probably have a second round…

I left Salmigondis with a very satisfied smile and also accomplished my mission of bringing my mother to a wonderful restaurant where she would give no complaints.
