Basak: This is the destination to have fried chicken

Step away KFC and other fried chicken restaurant! Basak is here. The perfect fried chicken is here.

Basak is a fairly new Korean joint that specializes in fried chicken. To be truthful, I wasn’t all that excited to go there knowing I am hard to satisfy when it comes to fried chicken. But I still went because it was a semi-food blogger gathering ( Shout out to Montreal Food Pictures and Mr.Lew! ) and how could I possibly refuse when Mr.Butter loves his fried chicken. And, BAM, best decision I’ve ever made in my fried chicken history. Let me unfold this historical moment.

Obviously, to build tension, appetizer had to be ordered. This corn cheese put me in disbelief. It was simply cheese and corn, but somehow, its simplicity was such a novelty. But at 6$, this was really absurd. Thanks for the idea Basak, I’ll be making this at home instead.

It has arrived! The king of all fried chickens! This is the Basak Original fried chicken. In my book, this is fried in perfection. The meat remained tender and very moist while the skin was crispy. There was no excess oil nor batter. Every bite has a fine ratio of meat and skin. It was my favorite from the menu.

Next was boneless chicken. At the back, it was soy and garlic, and at the front, it was sweet and spicy. Regardless of the sauce, once again, the chicken was fried exquisitely. The sauce did not penetrate through the skin, so the exterior remained crispy. It reminded me of General Tao chicken but many times better. I prefer the soy and garlic over the sweet and spicy. Soy and garlic tasted like honey yet a hint of saltiness to balance it all, while sweet and spicy was overly sweet. If you like McDonald’s barbecue sauce, you would definitely love the sweet and spicy.

I would go back to Basak anytime. Plus, they play Korean pop music on their TV screen non-stop! Basak is here to stay!
