Kingyo Izakaya: Bewitched

Kingyo Izakaya: Bewitched

I was bewitched by a goldish.

Kingyo Izakaya, which stands for goldish in Japanese, completely blew me away.

First, let’s admire their design!

These are their business cards. My sister found the top one scary. I found it rather original. Faces with goldfish! It could be a new series of horror movies!

A moment of silences for the cute napkin and chopstick envelope…

And we can finally move on to actual food.

For starters, we had tofu. This no ordinary tofu. This was a cold tofu served with heavily infused sesame oil dressing. It was heavenly.

For the main courses, the popular assorted bento box was sold out already. But that loss was really not a loss because we still had amazing food!

My mommy is a great advocate of sashimi and therefore, she of course ordered Chef’s choice assorted sashimi. She was beaming during the whole time she was eating her sashimi. Sashimi is all about freshness and this was an example of it.

My sister had the Chef’s choice grilled fishes. This reminds me of the times I spent in Japan, where we would grilled the dishes over a tiny griller, grilled to our liking. Munching while nodding. I would say my sister was a satisfied customer and at that moment, she was already planning to go back with her friends.

While I was having my sashimi and salmon flake bowl, I gushed out a satisfying “hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm”. It was such an “in peace” moment with myself and my food. The bowl had plenty of rice and, for someone who does not eat rich usually unless it’s Japanese rice, I was able to finish it. This is life!

If Kingyo was in my neighborhood, I would pay a visit every week (only because my wallet cannot afford it as a daily consumption). But I am glad to know that there are a few great izakaya in Montreal as well, although none does it like Kingyo.

I love you Kingyo! Yes, I am bewitched.
