Smoke Meat Pete – Smoking inside

Whenever someone mentions smoked meat in Montreal, we automatically associate it with Schwartz. But do you know that somewhere else have better smoked meat? Let me give you a hint, it is just a bit off from the island. On Ile-Pierrot. Yes, Smoke Meat Pete!

Alright, to be fair, I do not know, or actually remember, if this is better than Schwartz (because the last time I had Schwartz was 4 years ago). But what I do know, the smoked meat at Pete is fantastic and cannot be far apart from Schwartz’s.

Ironically, they both have bad service. Schwartz can’t wait that you leave the table, while the cashier at Smoke Meat Pete rolls her eyes when you want to change something in the middle of the order.

Choice of lean or fat meat was not given either. What they give is what you get. I’m not picky because whatever they gave me was juicy! The fries were on the salty side, but has a hint of sweetness. They were also very crisp!

Although meat was tender and smokingly good, the price was a bit steep. For a regular platter, it would cost about 13$. The platter pictured here is the jumbo one, which is about 17$. I don’t remember smoked meat costing like this at The Main nor Schwartz.

Another thing to note, Smoke Meat Pete is located far from the Montreal downtown. But it is a nice getaway and to remind ourselves how nice the neighbourhood around Montreal truly are. Another way to get there is following the “Route Verte”, the bike path leading from downtown to all the way there. This is the suggested form of transportation to get to Smoke Meat Pete. Guilt free indulgence!

Also noteworthy to mention that there are live bands performing on some days of the week. An experience unlike other smoked meat restaurant.

Just before you leave, go to the bathroom and then when you come out, you’ll realize how smokey it is!
