Le Fumoir Rubs Smokehouse – Amazing drinks

Le Fumoir Rubs Smokehouse is known for their ribs, but I think they should be better known for their drinks! Their drinks really impressed me.

The night we visited Le Fumoir Rubs Smokehouse, we arrived at an early hour, a bit later than 5:30 PM to be on time for a concert showing. The staff reassured us that the place is not this quiet usually – we were the first clients of the evening. Little by little, the place was receiving more and more customers. The staff is very attentive and explained in great details. Super friendly too – do not know if we were the only clients in the beginning had any impact. But, I did notice that the owner does go table to table to make small talk.

Ok back to the FOOOOD.

That night, we ordered 2 drinks. God, do I want more!

The first drink: Mexican bulldog.

Other than the visual effects of the drink (that surely captures anyone’s attention, a corona served upside-down WHAT!), the margarita drink is very “citrusy”. I could barely taste the beer. I really like this drink.

The other drink: Mr.Beam.

It’s a dark beer, bourgonne. Very sweet! I like it just as much. I really cannot decide which drink I like more.

There are other special drinks too – they sound just as good as these ones, i really want to go back and try them when I get the chance!

As for the food… it did not hit me as hard as the drinks.

Before our main dishes, we were served some bacon bits! THEY ARE DELICIOUS! and smell incredible too.

It is just spicy enough and crunchy enough from the outside! I think it’s the perfect bite-size food while watching a game.

and here comes our dishes

Baby back ribs. Side dish: Man n cheese with gouda cheese and sweet potato fries.

The ribs sauce are veeery delicious. Very smokey. I would even call it excellent sauce for ribs! But, the sauce does get a bit heavy after 3 ribs. And do not expect the ribs that fall off the bones because they don’t. I know many people like their ribs that way. But personally, I like my ribs meat stick the bone and using my teeth to bite them off.

The mac n cheese with gouda cheese was interesting, but really…not that fascinating. The sweet potato fries are just sweet potato fries…

Smoked burger. Side dish: coleslaw and apple slaw.

I took like 2 bites of the burger (because I do not like burger much in general). But I do have to tell you, I’m actually surprised that the burger does taste good to me! Mr.Butter said it was actually a very good burger – he’s a much burger knowledgeable than me; he’s actually doing his own hunt for the best burger. So, to have his approval of this burger does say much!

The coleslaw again…was just coleslaw…

All in all, my visit at Le Fumoir Rubs Smokehouse was a very pleasant one. My return would certainly be because of their drinks! I love them very much!

La Cabosse d’Or – hot chocolate anyone?

After hiking Mont St-Hilaire, it is justifying to treat myself… hot chocolate!

The nearest place for hot chocolate is La Cabosse d’Or. This place is so adorable. I believe it is an actual house but the ground floor is used for business. On the ground floor, there is a display of desserts, little boutique for a varieties of things such as chocolates, candies, random things. And then, there is a counter to order your perfect cup of hot chocolate. And a mini area for seating.

What I loved about this place is that the decor is all hand made!!

The hot chocolate set! I ordered the spice one.

I like it comes with a little biscuit! And you can pour to your cup with the amount of whip cream desired. So adorable!

The hot chocolate can be a bit sweet after a few sips. It doesn’t help when we ordered desserts…

To be honest, the desserts weren’t good at all. They look delicious and some are even very special. But the ones we ordered were very blah. They weren’t very fresh either…

I would suggest to stick with the hot chocolate experience.

M Cafe for cakes around downtown

M Cafe is conveniently situated in golden square mile. Just a corner away from Concordia. Perfect after a night class.

This was exactly what happened: I went to M Cafe after my evening class to satisfy my sweet tooth!

They serve an array of cakes and macarons as well! Some of their cakes are quite original – such as caramel and carrot cake!

It’s a quite original pairing! I actually really enjoyed it. The server actually highly suggested this cake and I am so glad that I agree with his choice!! This cake does not have heavy cream cheese topping – actually I don’t think it has any at all! It’s not overly sweet either 🙂

Here we ordered a very basic piece of cake – vanilla and chocolate. Although it’s simple, the taste is spot on. Just the perfect vanilla and chocolate cake. It’s not dry at all.

We also ordered a blueberry cheesecake. I did not eat any of it. But my mom said she was very satisfied with the cake! She knows her cheesecake very well. Therefore, if she says a cheesecake is good, it means it’s good!

One day, i shall try to have brunch there. It seems like a perfect place to have some in downtown in a relaxing and modern setting yet affordable!

Lamb hot pot makes your tummy so warm!

Like I have promised to myself, I have returned to Kiss Grill to try their hot pot for cold weather time! Go to here for my previous review on Kiss Grill.

Oh was this an ingenious decision! Their hot pot was….simply DELICIOUS. Just perfect for our winter weather!
To start off, I ordered my very adored vegetable dish.
However, this time, I noticed they gave less those spongy things and gave more of mushrooms…slightly disappointed but still very simple and good.
and then came the STAR dish!! (We had to wait for a while for it to get ready, about 30min? – which I don’t mind at all!)
This pot was huge. There were so much lamb – totally worth every penny. The spicy level can be determined when ordering. If I remember correctly, we had one level off from the highest level of spiciness, and I find it was just perfect. It wasn’t spicy to the point where I can’t taste anything. Do take note that I do eat very spicy, apparently… This hot pot has tofu and cabbage as well! It’s a bit more than enough for 2 people.
The only thing I would change is…..actually not change, but to add to the hot pot is vermicelli!!! urgh how much i wish they actually come with it. But i do see other hot pot served in the restaurant with them…i should have asked them to add it with the additional charge instead. Oh well. Next time!
This place is such a gem! I’m really surprised that no one has really given much praise to it. It’s like waaaay better than the little fat sheep in chinatown.
Then again, I like how it is now, not overly crowded. I like the cozy and homey feel to it.

Holiday at Krispy Kreme

This year I made sure to remember the limited edition doughnuts from Krispy Kreme.

They have special flavors and are cute looking too!!

Snowman!! There is nothing special other than its appearance. Its filling is just whip cream! Very cute though!

Red velvet doughnut!! Doesn’t it look amazingly good?! Well, inside was rather dry though 🙁

Gingerbread cake doughnut! My favorite out of the bunch! The taste of it was good – very gingerly. And just enough icing, not too powerful to hide the ginger taste.

Don’t you love all the holiday limited edition menu?!
